PRESIDENT JACOB ZUMA ATTENDS THE AFRICAN UNION SUMMIT

The South Africa President, Mr Jacob Zuma, will attend the AU Summit scheduled for 01 – 03 July 2009.
The AU Executive Council of Ministers Meeting will deliberate on a range of issues which will cover administrative, legal and institutional, political, economic and cultural matters and assess the implementation of programmes of the AU ahead of the AU Summit.
According to the Department of International Relations and Cooperation spokeswoman Nomfanelo Kota, President Zuma is expected to brief the summit about political developments in southern Africa. President Zuma is chairman of the Southern African Development Community, which recently held an extraordinary meeting to discuss the political situation in Madagascar.
Ms. Kota said the main focus of the summit, however, would be encouraging increased investment in agriculture and assessing progress on the implementation of the African Peer Review mechanism by member states.
