SOUTH AFRICAN PRESIDENT VISITS RUSSIA
South African President Jacob Zuma visited the Russian Federation from 5-6 August. This was President Zuma’s first official visit to Russia and his programme included meetings with President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin, delivering the keynote address at the South Africa-Russia Business Forum, as well as wreath laying ceremonies at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and at the Novodevichy Cemetery, where South African liberation heroes, Moses Kotane, Ivon Jones and JB Marks are buried.
President Zuma was accompanied by 11 Ministers and a large delegation of senior officials and business leaders.
The following agreements were signed during the visit: Visa Exemption for Diplomatic, Official and Service Passport Holders; Cooperation in the Field of Plant Quarantine; an MoU between the South African Space Agency and the Russian Federal Space Agency on Cooperation in the Field of Earth Observation; and a commercial contract between Eskom and Tenex to supply fuel to South Africa’s nuclear power facility.
